Thermowood – what is it and why is it worth choosing?
Wood is a material known to man for thousands of years. However, modern technologies today allow us to extract even more durability, beauty and functionality from it. One such solution is Thermowood – thermally modified wood. What is behind this name and why is it becoming more and more popular both in construction, garden arrangements and saunas? I will talk about this in today's article.
What is Thermowood?
Thermowood is a natural wood that has undergone special thermal treatment. This process involves heating wood at temperatures from 160°C to 220°C in a controlled atmosphere of water vapor and without oxygen.
The goal is to change the structure of wood cells to obtain a more stable material, resistant to moisture, mold and fungi.
As a result of this process, wood:
it loses some of its hygroscopicity (that is, it absorbs less water), the
gains better dimensional stability,
becomes more resistant to weather conditions,
it changes color to a warmer, deeper shade of brown that resembles exotic wood species.
